Dr. Colleen Grafa choose the field of physical therapy when she realized its vast opportunities for professional growth and the ultimate need for more physical therapists as society began to outlive previous generations. As a licensed Physical Therapist, she has continued her education, earning an advanced Clinical Doctor of Science degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, a Master of Science degree in Sports Health and certification in Women’s Health. She has extensive academic and clinical experience in orthopedic physical therapy and sports manual therapy, including research and specialty training for shoulder complex injuries and rehabilitation and elite athletic sport injuries. A common misconception about Dr. Grafa’s specialty work with the pelvic floor and osteoporosis is that it is “for women only”. In fact, she treats many men suffering from the negative effects of low bone mass as well as those with a wide array of pelvic floor dysfunctions.
Her doctoral dissertation, The Effect of Exercise on Index of Kyphosis, Trunk Strength, Shoulder Flexion and Functional Disability Scores in Postmenopausal Women with Low Bone Mass was recognized by the Texas Physical Therapy Association. She has written for and has been featured in Pilates Style Magazine ™ as well as authoring professional continuing education manuscripts for the American Physical Therapy Association. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Grafa is adjunct faculty for TWU’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in Dallas.
Empowering individuals to take care of their health through body- mind education and philosophy brings Colleen the greatest joy in her work as she feels it is the single most important factor to obtaining inveterate health of the body and mind.
