Neck & Back

Neck and back pain is a very common condition and has many causes , such as:

  • Acute injury to muscles, joints or tendons
  • Disk herniation
  • Degenerative Disk Disease (arthritis)
  • Normal wear and tear of the aging process
  • Fracture of the vertebrae of the spine due to injury or loss of bone mass (osteoporosis)
  • Curvature of the spine (scoliosis)
  • Less commonly from other diseases such as tumor of the spine

Possible signs that you should seek the advice of an orthopedic spine surgeon:

  • Persistent aching or stiffness
  • Sudden sharp pain in a localized area of the back
  • Inability to stand up straight without pain
  • Numbness, tingling or weakness in the arms or legs
  • Pain that radiates from the neck into the arms or from the low back down into the buttocks or back of the legs
  • Some severe back conditions left untreated can cause permanent damage to the nerves , weakness in the legs and bladder incontinence
