The shoulder area is very complex and is the place where multiple bones and ligaments come together. It is the most versatile joint in the body and provides us with a tremendous amount of flexibility and mobility, but also has a lot of potential for injury.
Common causes of shoulder pain include:
- Injury to the ligaments such as rotator cuff tear, shoulder disclocation
- Fractures of the shoulder complex (collarbone, upper arm)
- Degenerative conditions such as arthritis
- Inflammation from overuse, such as bursitis
Symptoms:
- Pain and stiffness in or around the shoulder
- Limited mobility
- Weakness of the shoulder limiting the ability to lift the arm overhead or behind the body
- A popping or grinding sound or feeling in the shoulder
